As international interest in great white wines continues to grow, Galicia is consolidating its position as one of the most admired wine regions among wine lovers, sommeliers and industry professionals. In this context, Lagar de Cervera 2025 arrives on the market, the new vintage of Albariño produced by Lagar de Fornelos, the Rías Baixas winery belonging to the La Rioja Alta, S.A. Group. Once again, it highlights the value of Atlantic origin as one of the defining hallmarks of contemporary Spanish wine.
Produced exclusively from Albariño grapes grown in estate-owned vineyards located in the sub-regions of O Rosal and O Salnés, this new release is the result of an exceptionally balanced growing season. Following a dry winter, a rainy spring and a moderate summer, the harvest—one of the earliest in recent years—yielded grapes of outstanding quality, combining pronounced varietal expression with the natural acidity that defines the character of the vintage.
"Lagar de Cervera 2025 clearly reflects the character of our vineyards in O Rosal and O Salnés, where the proximity to both the Miño River and the Atlantic Ocean brings tension, salinity and precise ripening. It is an Albariño that combines varietal purity and depth, remaining true to its origin," says Olga Verde, Winemaker at Lagar de Fornelos.
The winery carried out a manual harvest with an initial selection in the vineyard followed by optical sorting, becoming a pioneer in Galicia in the adoption of this technology. After a winemaking process designed to preserve the purest expression of the variety, the wine remained in contact with its fine lees, gaining complexity and texture while retaining its freshness.
The result is a refined and elegant Albariño. On the nose, it displays aromas of crisp white fruit, citrus notes and delicate mineral nuances. The palate is distinguished by its balance between tension and volume, supported by perfectly integrated acidity and a long, saline finish that unmistakably evokes its Atlantic origin.
Owned by La Rioja Alta, S.A. since 1988, Lagar de Fornelos has become one of the benchmark wineries of Rías Baixas through its long-standing commitment to estate vineyards, innovation and respect for Galicia’s native grape varieties. Today, the winery owns 108 hectares of vineyards—89 hectares in O Rosal and 19 hectares in O Salnés—representing one of the largest Albariño vineyard holdings under a single winery within the appellation.
With Lagar de Cervera 2025, the winery reaffirms a philosophy rooted in expressing the Atlantic landscape through wine, presenting a vintage destined to further strengthen the growing international prestige of Galicia’s great white wines.
