La Rioja Alta, S.A. has decided to strengthen its Winemaking Department by bringing on board Alejandro López, who joins the technical structure of the winery group as part of the team led by Julio Sáenz since 2005.

López (Vitoria-Gasteiz, 1978) holds a degree in Viticulture and Oenology from the University of La Rioja and in Agricultural Technical Engineering from the University of Navarre. He started his professional career working for the Government of La Rioja advising producers and winemakers on organic production. Later, he continued his training abroad as an assistant winemaker in wineries in Chile, Italy and the United States. Back in Spain, he worked in several Rioja wineries and joined Bodegas Bilbaínas, Haro in 2010, being appointed its Technical Director in 2016.

Last year he was included by Pedro Ballesteros MW on behalf of the renowned magazine Decanter in his Top 10 list of Spanish revelation winemakers, describing him as "a key figure and reference in the new generation of winemakers who set trends in our country.”Now, Alejandro López will contribute his vision, experience and knowledge to La Rioja Alta, S.A. by joining the team led by Julio Sáenz for both the century-old winery in the Station District and the wineries in Rioja Alavesa (Torre de Oña), Ribera del Duero (Áster) and Rías Baixas (Lagar de Fornelos).
