James Suckling (USA): Viña Alberdi 2010, second place in the World’s Top 50 wines under $50

La Rioja Alta, S.A. closes a fabulous year with another great piece of news. Viña Alberdi 2010 has achieved, thanks to its 95 point score, the second place among ‘The 50 Best Value Wines under $50 in 2016’ recently published in www.jamessuckling.com by the renowned American taster  James Suckling. This is an exclusive international selection of fifty wines from around the world which have particularly stood out for their extraordinary value over the past twelve months.

The list of  fantastics by Suckling, an independent critic, includes prominent Spanish, Argentine, Italian, French, Australian, American, Chilean, New Zealand and German wines. As he says, “great wines do not always have to be very expensive.”

The former Wine Spectator taster is currently the editor of what is becoming one of the leading winetasting websites in the world of wine. He praises Viña Alberdi 2010 (the vintage which is currently on the market) for its vinification, which has provided “ripe and intense aromas of strawberries and blackberries with hints of black ink” as well as savoury notes. He describes it as “full-bodied, chewy and focused with linear fruit and character” and “very finely crafted” and recommends it to “drink or hold.”

This extraordinary piece of news comes just weeks after James Suckling included as highest-rated Rioja red, the next vintage to be marketed (2007) of the Gran Reserva 904 in its Top 100 wines of 2016 list.
