DWWA 2015: Gran Reserva 890 - 2001, Best Rioja Gran Reserva and Gold Medal

The renowned competition Decanter World Wine Awards, one of the most important and influential in the world, just made public the results of its 2015 session, recently held in London.

The wines are subjected to a strict selection and tasting process involving 200 specialists and masters of wine. The 2001 Gran Reserva 890 'Selección Especial' by La Rioja Alta, S.A. was given the regional award for ‘Red Rioja Gran Reserva over £15’. It also earned a Gold Medal.

Decanter magazine will be featuring the Awards in coming issues and will also showcase its international trophy winners, including the 2001 Gran Reserva 890 Selección Especial, thanks to this award.

This is the first time in La Rioja Alta, S.A.’s 125 years’ history that this wine has been branded ‘Selección Especial’. It is also one of the three Rioja wines to be chosen by the wine taster Pedro Ballesteros MW in an article titled ‘Create the perfect Spanish cellar’ published in the May 2015 issue of Decanter.

The Spanish Master of Wine describes the 2001 Gran Reserva 890 Selección Especial as “the best reference for the classic style of Rioja” adding that it is a wine “to drink or to keep for many years.”
