The wines of La Rioja Alta SA are made and aged in two wineries which complement each other perfectly. The Haro winery, in the Station District, has all the flavour of a traditional Rioja wine-making facility, and is ideal for ageing wines. At the same time, the winery in Labastida, a modern facility built to satisfy the requirements of our oenologists and wine experts, is perfect for guaranteeing a magnificent fermentation process.
La Rioja Alta S.A. represents the essence of vine-growing culture. Its vines are tenderly cared for on this 473-hectare estate, 360 of which are used as vineyards, in the best parts of the Rioja Alta area, the most exclusive of this Denomination of Origin.
Our vineyards are planted on limestone soil, basically in the Rioja Alta subzone: Rodezno, Labastida, Briones, Cenicero, Fuenmayor etc. In order to have grapes of the garnacha variety, we also have a 63-hectare estate in Tudelilla, Rioja Baja.
The mean production of our vineyards is 5,000 kg/hectare (34.43 Hl/Ha), 24% less than the maximum authorised in Rioja (45.50 Hl/Ha), thus enhancing the quality of the fruit. 80% of our vines are trellis-trained and the remaining 20% use the gobelet training system.
Tempranillo dominates our vineyards, but in the last few years we have also planted Graciano, with which we hope to add a special personality to our wines, and Garnacha, so that we can continue to make Viņa Ardanza as attractive and elegant as always.
We also use fruit supplied by approved growers, all of them magnificent producers, who provide the quality that we require in our raw material.
