The future

These are a few details of our story, the history of LA RIOJA ALTA, S.A.

We feel sure that the original concept dating from 1890 is still present in LA RIOJA ALTA, S.A., and we try zealously to preserve the creative and enterprising spirit of our founders.

We hold our history and the philosophy of our founders in great respect, evident not only in our way of making wine but also in our brands, in our dealings with clients and in our close relations with the town of Haro.

It is also evident that, with the passage of time, LA RIOJA ALTA, S.A., without losing sight of the aim for maximum quality outlined at its very foundation, is continually expanding installations and vineyards, totalling at present (including the extension in Labastida), 51,000 American oak casks for the preparation of wines, more than 6 million bottles of wine in the process of ageing and more than three hundred-fifty hectares of the best vineyards. The 19 million litres we hold in vat, cask and bottle are the equivalent to more than eight years' sales. Besides the vineyards already mentioned, those worthy of note are: Labastida (10 hectares), Briones (10 ha), Fuenmayor (31 ha), Zarratón (8 ha) and another 54 hectares in various villages in the northern part of the Rioja.

But life continues and our dedication to quality presents us with more ambitious objectives every day. Our next aim, which we will achieve within a few months, is to be the only bodega of a certain size in the Rioja to offer its customers exclusively Reservas and Gran Reservas. We are very close to achieving this aim and the challenge, exciting and difficult from many points of view, is demanding all our attention.

We are not so interested in the quantity as in the quality of our wines. We want them all to be of a high standard, which means sacrificing large and easy sales.

By means of these brief notes, these small anecdotes, we hope the reader will have been able to enter a little more into the life of our firm and will be able to better understand the aims and objectives which serve as guidelines for LA RIOJA ALTA, S.A.
